2.2 | Finding your language: How to adapt prompts to your style

What is this module about?

An AI text often sounds like AI—smooth, correct, but just not like you. In this module, you’ll learn how to change that. You’ll develop your personal style prompt—a guide that describes how your texts should sound.

The goal: AI-generated content that feels like your language—consistent, authentic, recognizable.

1. What is a Style Prompt?

A style prompt describes the desired tone, attitude, word choice, and stylistic features of your communication. It helps you to guide the AI specifically—whether for emails, presentations, proposals, or articles.

You can use the style prompt as an additional prompt at any time—or store it in an assistant to work with your tonality permanently.

2. Why This is Useful

  • Consistency: Your AI texts consistently sound like you or your company—across all channels.
  • Less Rework: The effort for revision decreases because you fight against the generic AI style less often.
  • More Recognition: Even AI-supported communication carries your signature—this creates trust and identification.

3. Two Ways to Your Own Style Prompt

Option 1: Have Text Samples Analyzed
  1. Collect 5–10 typical texts from you (emails, blog articles, presentations, etc.) where your style is well represented.
  2. Paste them into a document.
  3. Use this prompt—e.g., in Claude or ChatGPT:
„Act as a brilliant copywriter and text expert. Analyze the writing style, the tone of voice from the attached text samples, and describe the style as precisely as possible so that other AI assistants can work with it in the best possible way. Ignore the content, focus exclusively on the style. Respond in English.“
  1. Read the result—and adjust it if necessary.
Option 2: Build Your Style Prompt Step by Step with an AI

For this, use the specially prepared assistant „Style Prompt Generator“ on the xpandAI platform. There you will be guided step by step through the most important elements—and at the end you can save your finished style prompt.

4. The Structure of Your Style Prompt

  • Role Who is writing here? What qualifies you or your position? Example: „You are an experienced communications consultant in the SME sector.“
  • Task What is written regularly? Example: „Write a welcome email for new employees.“
  • Specifications How should it sound? Tone: personal and motivating—no clichés, no bureaucratic language. Max. 150 words.
  • Context Why is this type of language important? Example: „New employees should feel welcome, not overwhelmed.“
  • Example (optional) Provide a successful sample text—or create a suitable sample text.
  • Notes What should be avoided? What typical mistakes happen easily? Example: „Avoid marketing language, keep it human and clear.“

5. Practical Note on Formatting

Here, too, the rule applies: a style prompt is particularly easy for AI tools to read if it is written in Markdown format (see Module 4.2).

6. Your Next Step

  • Create your personal style prompt—either through text analysis or with the help of the xpand Style Prompt Generator.
  • Use it as an additional prompt for your tasks or integrate it into your own assistant instructions (see Module 4.2).

Your Takeaway

  • A style prompt helps you create AI texts that consistently match your personal style
  • You can define your style by analyzing existing texts or building it step by step
  • Important elements: Role, Task, Specifications, Context, Examples, and Notes
  • A well-formatted style prompt saves you a lot of rework and ensures authentic AI texts
